3.8 Methodological Developments

Development of experimental and analytical methods is crucial for advancing the study of Earth materials at high pressures and temperatures. Our goals include: (1) extension of existing techniques to new ranges of pressure, temperature and sample volume; (2) development of new methods for measuring physical properties such as ultrasonic velocity, density, and viscosity in-situ at high pressures and temperatures; (3) improvement in the precision of pressure measurement and control; and (4) adaptation of spectroscopic techniques to determine the structure and composition of Earth materials. Our latest developments are summarized in the contributions below.
